Our worship services are deeply rooted in the Bible. We sing words of the Bible, we read from the Bible, we pray with words from the Bible.
Our music is diverse and no two Sundays are the same. We use contemporary songs, recent global music, classic North American and Eurpoean hymns, and chants that go back nearly a millennium or more... sometimes all in the same service. Piano and flute usually accompany us. Kids are welcome to pick a percussion instrument and work with our musicians.
Though the music and the scriptures change each week, the rhythm of our services is Gathering, Word, Meal, and Sending. We come together to praise and pray, we hear God's Word, we are strengthened by Holy Communion, and we are sent into the world to love and serve in Jesus' name.
During July and August Holy Family and Yellowknife United Church worship together and take turns leading the worship service.
We believe that children belong in worship because God has a word of good news for them too! The rhythm and flow of our worship services includes things kids can start learning at an early age, like the Lord's Prayer. We offer two kinds of children's bulletins -- age 3 to 6, and age 7 to 12 -- as well as kid's activity kits in a box by the door. Children's books are on the bottom shelf of the hymnal cart in the back of the chapel. Since we love to have kids in worship, we don't offer nursery care and simply invite parents to take a child into the foyer or the play room if they are concerned about noise; and then come back as soon as you're ready!
